‘Ailā’au is the creator of our islands from distant times way before man was present, and way before Pelehonuamea came from Polapola. He is a relative to Pelehonuamea, who is well known throughout the world as the creator of lands here on Hawaii'i Kuauli. He was among the gods that sunk the mole of this land into the sea floor of Kanaloa. ‘Ailā’au has been asleep for many centuries below Halema'uma'u. His ano or character is different from Pelehonuamea, as is his energy and flow, yet they both may be similar in spirit. Ailaau still reminds us of his presence and how significant he was in the creation of these islands before his relative was said to come here from Polapola, Tahiti long ago. His priests are long gone, his memory has faded from the land, he rules with Pele and shares this rule. Pele is also known as Pele ailaau. Could they both be the same energy?
