Laau Kahea, as referred to by certain Hawaiian healers, is an ancient discipline of healing that employs prayer, one's voice, intent, and internal energy with the objective of restoring or healing a specific individual, animal, location, or object. This art form encompasses numerous fields and practices that are honed by the practitioner. There are some accounts of individuals healing others through the direction of their own internal energy towards an individual. In essence, Laau Kahea utilizes one's energy to treat an injury or illness in another living being. This healing can be administered directly to the injured person and it can also be performed from a distance. With any form of laau work or healing work, the practitioner should request permission to assist the injured, and the patient must always grant their consent to be treated. This is always carried out to maintain the spiritual connection between the akua and the parties involved. There are various methods to perform this, and each practitioner develops their own unique form. Each practitioner possesses different energetic healing skills that are not replicated in another, and through consistent practice, one will refine their own unique skill set for their own wave current that flows through them. Some individuals are more naturally gifted than others, while some require training and practice to refine their skills. The energy within one's being through prayer, voice, and tone intonation is just one aspect of this art that moves and thrives. Energy or life force is present in every part of the planet and beyond. It is the knowledge of harnessing this energy and force that enables the healing process to occur. It is the focusing of this healing life force with the intent of restoring balance to the subject. This art form is not lost, as it can be found in everyone.
