PRE-HISTORY TO THE DISCOVERY

I have been interested in this topic of pre-Maori inhabitants ever since finding pre-Maori artifacts. More correctly they have found me. All are stone. Basic stone, not hard serpentine, argillite, pounamu, whalebone or wood. One was at the extreme bottom of an Umu as it was about to fall into the sea. The very bottom! The site was not well known and is almost gone now. Then there was the very old adze, cracked and chipped under a very old skeleton also exposed by the sea. This skeleton was regarded as 'not one of us' by the local Kaumātua and was buried elsewhere to those already at the Urupa. He confirmed it as old - 'very' old. It also had a necklace of human teeth, with holes drilled through them where cordage once held them together. Only a few of these 'He Maioha Maukaki' have ever been found because they are so rare and they belong to those already living here before Maori arrived. Maori did not wear such things, at least not that of the last 700 years. (The Lloyd collection from Auckland has this one below). There was also some drilled human teeth forming part of a necklace found at a site I won't name on the edge of the Manukau Harbour. This site had a mixture of occupation back to the 10th century where wearing the teeth of your ancestors had been a more common practice. See 3 of the 10 found in the picture below. There used to be a red-headed preserved Maori head in the Otago Museum. It was in a glass case alongside another one. (If you are of the right age and live in Dunedin, you may have seen it for yourself?) There are also many stories of unusual items being discovered around the country, yet there is no physical proof of any of these finds, supposedly because local Iwi hid them away or destroyed them. That may be true - it may not. But there is not a single photograph of these supposed 'finds'. In this modern age that seems highly suspicious. Ok, I suppose in the 1990's we didn't carry mobile devices. A new accidental find should never go unrecorded ever again! Then the stories of tall 8' skeletons found in three locations in the Waikato NZ grabbed my attention. Surely this is a hoax. However, I began to think...'If an 8' skeleton without a rocker jaw and without a pentagonal skull, some hair intact, lying on a pre-cut rock shelf was found, then it cannot possibly be Maori, so Maori can make no claim to it. Not so, some say, not all Maori had rocker jaw. Yet all the old original Polynesian skulls found do! ... and all Maori skulls are pentagonal. But some Maori have red hair some will say. True, but what if all the skeletons had remnants of red hair? But it may just have been a tall Maori. True, but what if many of these tall skeletons were found, all together in one place? What if 14 were found together, tall, red hair, without rocker jaw? But the clincher is that Maori did not cut shelves into the sides of caves to lay their dead. Never ever. And what if unusual artifacts were with them? Surely then, if a skeleton described above was found, they must be studied properly because they can’t be Maori and therefore Maori cannot claim them or demand what is done with them - after all, political Maori say the fabled races of old don't exist and that Maori are the true Tangata Whenua, the first here. Well, not all..David Rankin believes they do. So do I. Giant skeletons? Am I serious? Yes I am. But I have no proof as yet. Then I found some stories of caves that held many 'tall ones' near Raglan, in a cave and behind a waterfall. There is also another near Port Waikato in a cave near the Tameana and Hineana caves. There is also a cache of skeletons in a cavern near Waikeretu Valley. But this last account most read as being in Waikaretu and being discovered by contractors, was actually near Matira Rd, to the south according to the contractor. Apparently, the site was closed immediately upon Maori viewing it and the access hidden. Why? Because what they saw within that cavern were not Maori, they were much older and much taller - the Raparoa. A moratorium was then slapped upon this site as well. Why not investigate and produce a full, detailed, professional archaeological assessment? Is it because Maori fear the proof that others were already here...the true Tangata Whenua...would affect their Waitangi Tribunal treaty claims? It won’t...but maybe it should! So why am I mentioning all this? Because we know of four of those sites...or should I say the first of them found me. We won't disclose the first or third location publicly as we don't want looting by those who do such a thing, or destruction of this site by those who quickly closed it up when it was first found. The approximate location of the second is known, but is also covered. The third is watched and fourth is lost (but I believe I know to within 100m where it is). Research is a great tool. In the following pages and over the next three years or so you will find digital photos and information, along with video, that will prove that the 'tall ones' actually existed, and that they were here long before Maori ever arrived and eventually took the land from them. I believe the stories that they were hunted to extinction are likely true as they fought among themselves often enough (think Nga Puhi in the early 1800's). We cannot prove that assertion, but why would Maori not want their ancestors documented for all time? Answer: Because they are not their ancestors! This country's true ancient history has been covered up, secreted away, and legislated against. But why? Treaty claims. If Maori were not the first here, it might interrupt the money flow - at least by legal challenge. It shouldn't but it could. Therefore, what I am doing here may prove dangerous. So before I outline this more, I need to point out that it is my belief that Waitaha, and others who were here before Maori, were a peaceful people and that Maori were a warlike people. (A study in 2009 by G. Raumati Hook proved the existence of a 'warrior' gene accounting for the high rate of aggressive offending in Maori males). However, once they dominated the country, they continued to war heavily among themselves long before a white face ever appeared. That said, if I am threatened in any way by Maori, this will just confirm it. Revealing the peaceful pre-inhabitants who were hunted to extinction, will incur the same 'spirit' against me. I believe that spiritual things hang around succeeding generations, people, and even whole races. I believe an element of the warring and dominating spirit still pervades throughout Maoridom - not all, but most. We shall see it revealed in the reaction to the full public release of the actual photos on this website by about 2019, or earlier if all goes well. As I write this, the first cave in question requires some very cunning methods to get what we need...final digital proof. First of all the entrance is a phreatic tube completely hand filled with rocks, clay and quarry dust. It is only 3.5 ft round and it's length, until it opens into the cave itself, is unknown. Once we are inside, photo's and video of the cave, the skeletons, closeup detail of jaw lines, condition of teeth, any hair that is still present etc. Thigh bones will be measured and maybe a hair sample (I believe there will be some, because the ancients buried their dead whole and these ones are in a totally dry environment thankfully). Any hair sample will be sent away overseas for DNA testing and carbon dating - once we find a benefactor to enable this to occur. The sex of each skeleton will be noted along with any tools or weapons or other items such as pottery (it is unlikely, but it has been suggested it may be present and we know Maori did not make pottery) which, if we are greeted with some would make these skeletons very, very old indeed, anywhere from 1000-1800 years old. But who knows? If in fact this first cave is just a normal burial cave, we will exit and seal. By the way - the fact that it was discovered, hushed up, legislated and fully sealed, reveals that what is inside is something Maori do not want the archaeologists to document, nor the world to see or even know about. It has since been revealed to me that a few Archaeologists would testify to cover ups over the years. This makes me want to prove to the world that the 'tall-ones' exist all the more. It's almost an obsession. And one more thing. Once we are in, all the written written documentation, sketches, photo's, video and anything else will quickly be duplicated and sent to various contacts around NZ and the world - should we be shut down. Any local recipients of that information will not be those I normally associate with. The contents of that first cave, should they be as we believe, will be eventually be revealed, in full, to the world. Stay with us and enjoy the journey...even if it does take longer than anticipated. 3rd December 2015 Addendum 3/2019 - We now have evidence of a fossilized human bone brought into the filled entrance from outside. As it takes an absolute minimum of 1300-1500 years to turn bone to stone [even in the most perfect of circumstances], it reveals that Maori entered an already occupied land. They are not from the Polynesian introduced Kuri dog - nor from the native bat. Therefore they can only be one thing....! Keep in mind that Maori arrived here around 730 years ago from Polynesia. These bones are not even what we are seeking for and we still don't hold them as the peak of the evidence we seek. The evidence we seek is more complete and many times more compelling than one (so far) fossilized human bone pre-dating accepted human habitation of Aotearoa. Addendum 5/2019 - We now know of others who have seen tall non-Polynesian skeletons and can show us to give us confidence of what we seek. So we are not the first obviously, but I believe we have the best vehicle to get the story out. Addendum 10/2019 - That fossilized bone we mentioned above....it's a femur and it measures about 66cm long. What that means is that it belonged to someone over 8' tall. Imagine that, and they say no such race ever existed? Addendum 12/2020 - My guess is that few will read down this far... but yes we are still digging in a different place, one that is safer and holds the same promise of success without danger. We are not posting dig updates on this one unless it proves a dead end (we'd actually like it to be a 'dead' end), and we can bait the media again...

201 - Maori Giants

There are lots of legends around the world of giants and many stories of finds in the last two hundred years and many recent ones. But let's go back to the Maori... those here since 1280. What legends did they have? Maori have traditions of uncommonly tall warriors of Old New Zealand. The legends do not mention the dimensions of the Maori as they did not have such a system of measurement. Certain Maori traditions of uncommonly tall warriors do mention their great reach with a weapon, which made the big chieftains of old such formidable foes in battle. The numerous stories, though obviously exaggerated in some particulars, all go to show that a marvellous physical development was attained by some of the ancestors of the present Maori. There is the story of Kiharoa, a giant of the Ngati-Raukawa and Ngati-Whakatere tribes, who met his death about 1835. His stronghold was Tokanui Pa in the King Country a short distance south of the Puniu River. The story has it that he was twice the height of an ordinary man, and he wielded a hard-wood taiaha of unusual length and weight. He was killed at last when he slipped on some karaka leaves as he fought in a battle just outside his pa. His enormous head presently decorated the palisades of Totorewa, a pa of the Ngati-Maniapoto. An excavation for an oven to cook the huge body was made where he fell, and in one’s youth in those parts the “Giant’s Grave,” as it was called, in the fern, was pointed out by the Maori; the spot is close to where the Tokanui Hall now stands at the cross-roads. Hios height may have been exaggerated; but let us be generous and allow that he was at least eight feet. There was another giant of these parts long ago, one Matau; like Kiharoa, he was a man of the Ngati-Raukawa tribe, and, too, his favourite weapon was the taiaha. He lived on a hill above the Wairaka River, a few miles beyond Orakau. Maori accounts aver that he was eleven feet high... again, an impossible height. In the Rotorua country, too, there are stories, no doubt based on fact, of huge warriors of the past. There was the chief Tuhourangi, for one; he lived three centuries ago. He was nine feet high, according to tradition, and was about six feet up to his armpits. His bones were buried on the east side of Pukurahi Pa, on Mokoia Island in Lake Rotorua, above the present little settlement on the flat. In 1896, Tamati Hapimana said that Tuhourangi’s bones were still there, deep in the ground, enclosed in stone slabs (interesting as that is not a Maori custom but it is a Melanesian one). Maori seemed to delight in such stories back then for Tuhourangi was supposed to be able to shout from the mainland to Mokoia Island, three or four miles away, bidding his slaves prepare food for him. Nowadays Maori deny the existence of giants, yet they are in their own legends and stories. In the early 1800's some of these tall-ones ancestors are said to still be tall - such families as Kaihau of Waikato, Wahanui of the King Country, Haupapa of Rotorua, Tareha of the Bay of Islands. Then there was Te Pute, a hero of the Ngapuhi folk. When he sneezed the thundering sound thereof was heard from Punakitere as far away as Kaikohe, and that is several miles distant. Of course that is much a myth as the way the islands of Aotearoa were formed. In the South Island there are somewhat similar legends. Tikao, a chief of the Ngati-Irakehu, a section of the Ngai-Tahu tribe, whose homes were at Opukutahi, on Akaroa Harbour was a warrior of six feet four or five inches in height, or more, and so powerful that he could swing two men, supporting their entire weight, on his outstretched right arm. A feature of the big man’s appearance was his half-finished moko for he had blue spirals and wrinkle-following lines on one cheek only. No one could touch him with the taiaha, and when in 1830 Te Rauparaha captured the Akaroa people and slaughtered many, he spared Tikao because of his warrior bearing, and his skill with the weapon. ***** So there we have it. We already have proof someone of 8' lived in the Waikato. Yet even Maori legends seem to confirm there were some of extraordinary stature here up to the early 1800's at least. Stories have truth in them. You see, before the skeleton of the Haast Eagle was found no European believed the stories of the giant eagle that once lived here. Yet when the skeleton was found, the old stories proved it to be true. Ah, but now we have reports of giants from Europeans times... and being told by white people these stories must therefore be fake while the Maori stories are true - right? Otherwise we could not trust any story told by Maori that wasn't corroborated by Europeans as well. 1875 The newspaper named Timaru Herald, in the issue dated 24th February 1875, page 3, writes as follows: New Zealand “Discovery of Human Remains. A very large skeleton was found yesterday, about 7 feet below the surface of the sand on the Saltwater Creek spit. Mr Bullock, the carter, in removing some sand for building purposes, dropped across this relic of a past age and brought the fragments to town. We have had an opportunity of inspecting them, and were struck by their symmetry no less than their great size. They appear to have belonged to a man of gigantic statue; but are so far incomplete as to render it difficult to ascertain the dimensions of his frame. The bones are much decayed, a fact which taken in connection with the dryness of the situation where they were found, probably indicates for them a great antiquity. According to a local verbal tradition, the skeleton was estimated to belong to a person of around 8 meters tall. It had so huge scull, that a normal human skull supposedly could entirely fit into its mouth. It belonged to a mysterious tribe of local giants, by Maoris called Te Kahui Tipua which used to roam vicinity of Timaru until around 18th century. Numerous skeletons of these Timaru giants were found, but then mysteriously vanished soon after their discoveries. The most recent discovery of two gigantic human skeletons took place in 1960s in the area of Timaru called “Maori Park”. Local newspaper Timaru Herald, also wrote about it extensively, and many local people still remember these articles. However, I could not afford the large input of labour required for finding editorial details of the original article. Soon after being found, these gigantic remains from Maori Park also disappeared mysteriously. Presently no-one is able to tell what actually happened with them. I attempted to trace the further fate of the giant described in the above article of 1875. But when I was almost to locate a person who kept a huge lower jaw of this giant for a souvenir, I was made redundant from my job in Timaru and I needed to shift into a different location to earn my bread. It almost looks like the secretive dark force that empowers our planet does not wish we learn anything about human giants from Timaru. 1965 Very similar was the fate of huge Maori skeletons which were found in the burial cave from the Port Waikato, around 70 miles South from Auckland. They also mysteriously vanished. These skeletons from the Port Waikato were described in an article “Caves could reveal secret of tall Maoris”, published in the newspaper N.Z. Truth, issue of Wednesday, 29 September 1965, page 13. 1934 A 7' skeleton along with many others found in a large cavern in 1934 at Whangaroa with red 'fuzzy' hair (that is the key here) with wooden fish hooks with shell tipped barbs and other unusual items. It was not a burial cave but one they apparently lived in, but hid in, and died or were killed there. It is almost hidden by tree roots near the entrance of the harbour on the seaward side. 1931 The skeleton of a Maori who must have stood eight feet in height is reported by the Marlborough Express to have been found by Mr H. Redwood at Okaha, Pelorus Sound. Particulars of the discovery are not available but it is believed that the local natives claimed to know the identity of the remains, which were accordingly reinterred. Discussing the matter with a press man Mr W. J. Elvy, of the Lands and Survey Department, who is making a study of the Maori history of Marlborough, said it recalled the additional existence of a race of giants known as the Rapuwai, in the district where the skeleton was found. Some little time ago, said Mr Elvy, he was informed by Mr Peter McDonald (Makitanara) that the tradition was quite clear amongst his people. The Rapuwai were reputed to be to of abnormal height and so much so that in combat they were able to handle two ordinary men, taking one in each hand and clashing their heads together. Mr Elvy thought that the discovery of the skeleton might possibly lead to the confirmation of the native, traction, but it was a question requiring careful investigation. It was dangerous to jump instantly to a conclusion, for the skeleton might have been that of an abnormally tall individual m a tribe of quite ordinary stature. 1925 Human bones were found high up on a cliff face during excavations at Arapuni, the find being buried 100 ft deep in a cave found during building of the dam and resealed afterward. The remains are 'those of a remarkably tall and muscular skeleton'.... No skull bones were discovered. It is believed that they are those of a prehistoric people. 1973 During road widening on Matira Road, a cave was opened up below the machinery and workers found a number of tall skeletons up to 8' in length. It wasn't long before the hole was completely filled with heavy basalt columns from an area 400m away down the road. The road direction was then changed slightly to the left and continued on down the hill instead of its intended trajectory up to flat table ridges that lead to the heights of Pukerewa Rd where one could see the ocean. 2008 During the preparation of a housing development in Omokoroa in Tauranga, a lone worker uncovered a large skeleton reported to be about 7' at least. Following procedure he called his boss who called authorities and that day an archeologist and an iwi monitor turned up. We know the names of both these individuals. After examining the remains the iwi monitor declared the remains were 'not one of us', a steel container was dropped off and the remains loaded into it unceremoniously. NO archaeological investigation, study in situ, or report was ever seen to be made that day. It was simply 'whisked away'. The remain were taken to Motuhoa Island to be buried buyt the locals demanded it be buried elsewhere and it was done so at the other end of the island from where their Urupa was. Pity everyone didn't have phones with cameras back then as is standard for us now. However, I know the person who saw that skeleton, witnessed the discussion and the quick removal of the evidence. Finding out about us, he told us that story. It is 100% true.
