ʻŌlena

Kii: Luana Naturals

The flower and upper part of the olena plant dies off and the hua remains growing underground in the winter months. In Hawaiʻi, this laau is used in medicine, ceremonial practices, and as a yellow ochre-colored dye for kapa. The underground rhizomes have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties and are used to heal the body in various ways, internally and externally.

Traditional K.K Ku'ialuaopuna

E uwalo mai ana iau ka hiwa a Kane.

Ka laau hiwahiwa o Papa nei hoi.

E haka ka onohi i ka pulapula.

Ka onohi o Haloa ma luna

O Hawaii loa, moku lehua

Pohu ka moana, malio ke au.

Na olena papa a Kawailii nei la.

Io kanikani i ka ua,

Ka ua kakani Lehua, ua hiki mai.

Eia ka Olena a Kane, ka hiwa, ka mea, ka lena a me ka uri.

Na opuu papa a Kanehoalani.

The choice one of Kane calls.

The verdant olena of Papa.

Fix your eyes on the off srpring.

The eyes of Haloa are watching.

Great Hawaii, island of lehua

The sea is smooth the weather is calm

The clump of olena of Kawalii

The hawk that sounds in the rain.

The clattering rains of Hilo are falling

Here is the Olena of Kane, the dark, the reddish one , the yellow and the green

The fruits of Kane
